Negative First, First and Second Day of Raya
There will be a Third and Fourth day soon. For now, let me just tell you a story of how Jack met Sally my Raya celebration in Niah. Not Singapore, not Brunei, but Niah. (well, eventually Brunei)
Pada tanggal 1 Oktober, warga Islam sedunia telah menyambut Hari Raya, eating ren-dhang, and ker-too-fart. Ser-dhap, sar-nghat ser-dhap.
But before I go to the 1st of October, let’s go one day back, before Jack was born 1st of October.
CAUTION: Shiatloads of pictures await.
The day before the first day of raya (30th September 2008)
Anyway, since on that very week, I didn’t get the week off, we had to depart from Miri at 6pm, after my class. Meh. No holidays :(
My sister smuggled shiatloads of firecrackers and mercuns from Brunei, and god, she’s like the mercun dealer in the family. You want mercun, consult her. She’ll make you an offer you cannot refuse.
Reached there around 8pm-ish. I think. I wasn’t aware of the time.
Was shocked to find out that the wall interior of the house has had a sex colour change. And now it looks pretty nice. Orangy colour.
After admiring the wall, went out and played mercun. It’s a must to play mercun after 8pm.
Then, it hit me. Now’s a great time to try play around with the camera, specifically playing around with the shutter speed. I’m still a noobie in photography, especially night photography :(. How do you actually take photos of fireworks? Damn.
Anyway, here are some noobish results.
What the heck is alaaoooo? Wani did this.
GREAT SUCCESS!
After puas main mercun, and playing around, went inside, and, duit rayaaa!
Well, not for me that is. (isk isk ;_;) It’s for the the visitors that will come to the house.
WARNING: What you are about to see is something you are not supposed to see, but somehow ended up in the blog.
It’s top secret! You’re not supposed to know the contents of the duit raya!
..
Oh heck who cares.
Anyhoo.
Basically, I went around the house, snapping pictures of people doing work,

More work,
More work,
More “work”,
And lemangs.
After finish snapping pictures, went to bed. And that ends the night before raya.
The next day, (1st October 2008)
Omgraya.
*cue Selamat Hari Raya song*
Good morning everyone!
Woke up to M. Daud Kilau’s voice (since I set Che Mek Molek as my alarm tone, trust me, it really wakes you up).
Aha, my baju raya is dark blue in color. I don’t even know whether it’s new or not. :|

Does it look new?
Okay, so the picture’s blurry. It’s impossible to camwhore with a DSLR, mind you.
Anyway, after attempts of camwhoring, I went downstairs, to the kitchen, and saw,
LEMANGS AND RENDANGS! (hey, it rhymes!).
And kuihs.
Went to the mosque, prayed and went back. I didn’t stay for the khutbah, because I couldn’t clearly hear it. :( (I was sitting on the ground floor, the khutbah was on the first floor. Tet).
Ah, so since I went back early, I waited in front and snapped pictures of people coming back from the mosque.
My spot for the day.
Uncle Uchi.
Uncle Zaidi.
Uncle Mizi.

The Big Boss.

Aunt Om.
The Great Madam.
After everyone arrived, makan ti- oh no wait. Lepak duluu.

Now, it’s makan time!
Ngop,
Ngap,
Glug,
Nyum,
Munch,
*poot*
So after done eating, it was family photo session. Chewah, rasa professional la tek, with a DSLR in hand. Well, I’m not. I’m just a mere amateur with a DSLR camera.
There were 2 families missing, though. One is coming on the 2nd day of Raya, one is in Kuala Lumpur (or Penang I think).
Then, it’s random pictures time!
The three young ladies, freestyle!
The old grandfather clock, still standing. (It doesn’t really look old, does it?)
We were all supposed to look excited, but Niena really was excited. Inside the duit raya was- Wait, why am I telling you this. Shoo.
The dreaded horn. Damn. Where can I get one of these in Miri?
Ooh, inai.
I joined in the fun, for uhh….. fun. Auw.

Four hands working together.
Agagaga, my love for Coca Cola Light, written on my hand.
Me and Niena.
Wani and Ijan.
(why is the rock sign being abused lately?)
Anyway, after that, we went beraya to rumah Uncle Taib. (not the CM, just an average kampung guy in Kampung Sepupok).
My dad the 60’s Rock Star. Not.
Outside the house, there’s a dangdut kitten in a cage, putting on a free show.
Dance kitten, dance!
Sorry, no tip for you.
And then, we went to Niena’s cousin’s house (her father’s side).
Then, we went to.. I don’t know who’s house.
But all I know, the house owner has,
an innocent looking cat,
and a soft furry cat. Purr.
Anyhoo, after that, went back for a while, and everyone else went to the cemetery. I didn’t follow because I was so exhausted (suddenly) and thus I stayed back. (but I went to the cemetery on the 2nd day though).
Here are pictures that my sister took when she went there.
It has been 12 years since my grandfather’s death. Can’t help but to shed a tear after looking at this picture.

Al-Fatihah. RIP Late Grandfather. :( Will always miss you.
If you noticed, he passed away on the 21st of April, 1996. Just 8 days after my 6th birthday. According to my mom, she said that I was crying and saying, “Atok, Atok,” on the night of his death. Well, that’s what she said.
A string of events followed on the way balik kampung on that night.
Now, back to 2008.
Ah. Night time. The time to play mercuns!
We were playing the ones that had 24 shots, what the heck do you call them, I don’t know. Let’s just call it mercun, shall we?
Anyway, now was the time to test my photoshooting abilities.
Before the mercuns, snap pictures of peoples and stuffs, as warm-up. (chewah)
My dad the bad guy.
I still cannot figure out how I manage to capture this photo. I tried to emulate this a few snaps later, but failed. Meh
Welcome to paradise.
Anyway, now it’s time for mercun pictures!
First mercun, and first attempt = Failed miserably.
Second mercun = At least a wee bit improvement (I think. Does it look good at all? :/)
:(
HOT MAGMA SURFACING FROM THE LAND! AAA!
Since I was too emo, I went to sleep :(
And on to the next day, (2nd October 2008)
Goood morning!
The 2nd day, cousin Ayie is scheduled for arrival, and so is cousin/uncle Harry. (fuh).
But basically, in the morning, all we did was goof off. Thus, random pictures time!

Muka penuh semangat.
Dunt dunt! Cousin/Harry arrives.
HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER!
The arrival of Ayie made Ijan suicidal.
OI OI DONT EMO OI.
wtf kaki.
ANOTHER CHALLENGER APPEARS!
The dreaded horn makes another appearance!
We then went out, play a little bit of firecrackers to kill time.
What’s left of the previous night’s fireworks. And a few coconuts.
A great family relationship. :D
So, Harry went back, and we continued staying outside, playing mercuns.
Promoters in the middle of the road.
HOLY CRAP I’M SO CLOSE! AAA! RUN!
Honestly, 2nd day was a bore. We did absolutely nothing productive. At all.
Just sat down, lepak, and chat and chat.
At night, it’s the same.
Sat down, lepak, chat and chat.
Anyway, after the goofing off session, it was finally time to play the motherlode. The huge rockets!! (what do you call them, seriously?)
Attempt to take picture, take 1.

GAH WTF.
So disappointed man.
After that, it was time for the Roman candle. Pooft pooft ffpt.
Attempt to take picture, take 2.
AAH OUT OF FOCUS PULAK.
/emo
Bah, since all the pictures did not look as what I expected, we all decided to play with bunga api again, and get creative, again.

Niena took her photo and her soul just moved out from her. Wow.
Lol, this one. Ayie was playing bunga api and it stopped half-way. Lawak siot.
NO!
And now, witness the suckyness of my sister’s spelling ability.

What the hell is a quck?
She claims that she was writing duck. Okay. Yeah. Right. Aha.
Group photo timeee.
And off to bed we go.
Thus, ending day 2. Now, time for day 3 (3rd October 2008)
Goooood morning!
TO BE CONTINUTED….
eh.
CONTINUED.

lol.
